New Work: Neuropathy

12″ x 24″

This is another painting of a common complication of diabetes. Diabetic neuropathy occurs when high blood sugar levels damage nerve fibers throughout the body. This is most common in the legs and feet. I’ve completed two other paintings of my feet in the past, but this new one is the more graphic of the three. It illustrates a sore on the bottom of one foot and comments on the risk of amputation. If the feet go numb, a person can’t feel any injuries, especially those that go unseen, such as sores on the bottom of the feet. This is why it’s important to check the feet regularly and to be cautious of even the smallest foot injuries.
