Monster Art Rally 2016

Monster Art Rally Logo

Last year I participated in the 1st annual Monster Art Rally at the Taubman Museum of Art and I’m happy to announce that I’m participating again this year! The event is taking place this Thursday April 21st from 5-9pm. Over 30 local artists will be drawing on-site while visitors watch and learn about the artists, their work, and the art of buying art. All artwork will be on sale for $50 and each piece will go to the person who draws the highest card. Proceeds from art sales help support educational programming at the museum.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase, plus all galleries will be open until 9pm, including the Norman Rockwell exhibition. See below for more details and click here to visit the Facebook event.

If you are a local business, you can contribute by purchasing “Monster Dollars”–pre-paid sponsorships that can be used to play in the auction. Click here for more info and here to purchase.

Hope to see you there!! xoxo

New Work: Islets of Langerhans

Last year, I was asked to donate a piece of artwork for an auction taking place at a JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Gala in Pennsylvania this April. I agreed to create an oil painting related to diabetes for this event.

Islets of LangerhansIslets of Langerhans
20″ x 16″

The painting is a close-up of the islets of Langerhans–a region in the pancreas where insulin-producing beta cells are located. In a nutshell, Type 1 Diabetes occurs when the body destroys beta cells and essentially cuts off its own natural supply of insulin. This means that insulin needs to be injected manually.

I’ve recently developed an increased interest in the development of diabetes, and that, combined with my love of imitating blown up microscopic images, ultimately led to this painting. It’s pretty small, so I actually plan on creating a much larger version of this painting in the future. As always, thanks for reading :]

Work in Progress: JDRF Auction Donation

For the painting I’m going to donate, I wanted my subject to be the islets of Langerhans. The islets of Langerhans are regions in the pancreas that contain, among others, beta cells. Beta cells are responsible for the production of insulin. I will include some more info when I share the completed painting. For now, here are some images of the work in progress :]

Projects in Progress

I’ve been making Thank You cards for people that have been helping me out post-graduation. They’re all different and I think this one is my favorite:

What do you think?

I have SO many ideas for new paintings and drawings and prints, but first I have two projects that I need to finish. My first deadline is February 3rd and that is Diabetes Art Day! This will be the fifth Diabetes Art Day, and in honor of that, Lee Ann Thill is asking participants to do a pre- and post-art making survey in order to hopefully fund some research on the relationship between art and diabetes. I’ve already completed my pre-art making survey, so now it’s time to make something for the special day. I will share it with you on February 3rd of course :] I will also include a link to the Diabetes Art Day online gallery.

My next project is also related to diabetes. I’m donating a painting to an auction at a JDRF gala in Pennsylvania that’s taking place in April. I already know what I’m going to paint and I’m hoping to have it done by mid-February at the latest. I will share photos as I work on it.

That’s it for now. Thanks for reading!
